Grosvenor set to destroy Albion Extrusions Imports

Grosvenor Ceramic Hardware Ltd (Stone, Staffs, England), a member of ACID (Anti Copying in Design), discovered what it considered to be an identical copy of one of its ceramic door handles being exhibited at the Association of Suppliers to the Furniture Industry Exhibition in November 2000.

Making immediate use of the ACID Hotline, Grosvenor instructed Theodore Goddard to write to Albion Extrusions Ltd seeking undertakings. Albion Extrusions responded by denying the existence of any design rights in the design or that any such rights had been infringed.

After further negotiations, however, a settlement was quickly reached in Grosvenor's favour, with Albion Extrusions agreeing to destroy all remaining samples of the handles in its possession and to pay £1000 in compensation to Grosvenor.

Albion Extrusions also acknowledged Grosvenor's rights in its handle design and wrote to its Taiwanese manufacturer informing them that they must cease any further manufacture of handles made to Grosvenor's design.
