Economy Furnaces for Cost Effective Heating

The latest ELF economy box furnaces from Carbolite (Hope, nr Sheffield, England) have been designed to provide cost effective heating for general laboratory work at temperatures up to 1100°C. Chamber capacities of 6 and 14 litres are available.

The furnaces include several innovative design features, according to the company, including the use of free-radiating coiled wire elements embedded in a vacuum-formed moulding made of low thermal mass insulation. The elements are located on two sides of the chamber, which provides fast heat-up and cooling, together with good temperature uniformity and low energy usage, adds Carbolite.

The furnace hearth is made from hard-wearing, dust-free ceramic brick and the drop-down design of the door allows it to be used as a shelf when loading or unloading samples. Power to the elements is automatically cut off when the door is opened. Double-skin case construction keeps the outer case temperatures low. The furnaces are fitted with digital three-term controllers.
