EDO Awarded US$7.6 Million Navy Sonar Contract

EDO Corporation (New York, USA) has been awarded contract options worth US$7.6 million by the Naval Sea System Command (NAVSEA) for additional production of SQS-53C sonar arrays for the Arleigh Burke Class of guided missile destroyer and for foreign military sales. The sonar is used for detection, classification and localisation of threat submarines.

This latest order covers production of four shipsets of sonar arrays. These arrays include piezoelectric ceramic rings incorporated into high power transducers and associated array framework and cable assemblies. The transducers and other hardware will be integrated by EDO into the cylindrical arrays that are mounted in the bow of the ships.

The work will be performed by EDO's Electro-Ceramic Products unit in Salt Lake City, UT, USA. EDO Electro-Ceramic Products provides sonar equipment for anti-submarine and mine warfare and for underwater navigation and communication for surface ships and submarines.
