Dual Announcement from Sanitec on European Manufacturing Plans

Sanitec Corporation (Helsinki, Finland) has announced plans to reduce manufacturing capacity at Twyfords in the UK and to double production at Kolo in Poland.

Twyfords Bathrooms has begun a consultation with staff at its Alsager (nr Stoke-on-Trent, England) manufacturing plant. The restructuring of the factory may result in redundancies by the beginning of 2007.

Sanitec said that the restructuring will allow Twyfords Bathrooms to continue to concentrate on the design and manufacture of more complex products and ensure that the company's world class design remains key to the Sanitec business.

At the same time, Sanitec unveiled plans to expand the factory for bathroom ceramics and double the capacity in Kolo in Poland. The extension will be made on the existing premises of the factory and logistic centre.

As a result of this project, the production capacity in Kolo will increase from 1 million pieces to 2 million pieces per year. The construction will start in the second quarter of 2006 and the additional production is planned to come on stream in the second quarter of 2007.

"This is an important step to increase our capacity for bathroom ceramics in Central Europe, giving us the possibility to serve the markets in a flexible way," commented Lennart Sunden, President and CEO of Sanitec Corporation.

In 2004, Sanitec's net sales amounted to 898.9 million euro. The group employs almost 7,000 people, mainly in Europe. The 28 production plants are located in Europe whereas the sales and marketing network operates world-wide.
