Diamond-Like Coatings for the Medical Industry

Morgan Advanced Ceramics has introduced Diamonex Diamond-like carbon coatings (DLC) for prosthesis, surgical instruments and medical instrumentation packaging.

Applied to products either supplied by the customer or manufactured by Morgan Advanced Ceramics, Diamonex coatings are biocompatible and are said to exhibit outstanding chemical and wear resistance and low coefficient of friction, combined with dielectric and thermal management properties.

Morgan Advanced Ceramics uses patented plasma or ion beam chemical vapour deposition (CVD) technologies creating diamond-like surfaces but without long-range crystalline order. Diamonex coatings are applied to the substrate - which can be metal or ceramic - at near room temperature thereby avoiding distortion of the product being coated. The high degree of vapour ionisation of the company's processes provides dense, conformal coatings with excellent adhesion.

Available in either electrically insulating or electrostatic charge dissipating forms, Diamonex coatings can be engineered to meet the precise performance requirements of individual applications.
