Year's First Batch of Chu Dau Pottery Goes to Russia

VOVNews reports this week that a batch of Chu Dau Pottery, a famous product in the northern province of Hai Duong in Vietnam, was shipped to Russia on 22 February, opening export activities for the Year of the Tiger 2010.

According to Nguyen Van Luu, Director of the Chu Dau Pottery Enterprise, Russia is a major importer of Chu Dau Pottery. The year’s first shipment to this market included 2,500 sets of products, reportedly worth US$30,000.

The enterprise exports the ceramic products, which are known for their striking shapes, colours, patterns and meticulous vignettes. Export markets include Russia, Japan, Republic of Korea and European countries.

The enterprise is urgently building a so-called “ceramic garden” highlighting the 500-year old pottery making art of Chu Dau to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi in October this year, added Nguyen Van Luu.

Chu Dau pottery products are now preserved at 42 prestigious museums in 32 countries worldwide. Together with the Ngoc Lu Bronze Drum, Chu Dau Pottery is displayed at the UN headquarters representing Vietnamese culture.
