CeramTec to Expand Lasering in USA - but Mansfield Facility to close

CeramTec North America (Laurens, SC, USA) - a wholly owned subsidiary of CeramTec AG - is closing its facility in Mansfield, MA and moving the plant's operations to the Laurens HQ. The Mansfield facility had been responsible for the sales, import and distribution of electronic application ceramics, ceramic cutting tools (SPK), as well as its successful substrate lasering operations.

Executive Vice President Walt Dollman said: "For the lasered substrates, we will continue to produce our world renowned alumina and aluminium nitride substrates in our CeramTec QS-9000 facility in Marktredwitz (Germany) while transferring all existing equipment from Mansfield from Laurens, with the plan for early Certification of the laser department to QS-9000 in Laurens in the months ahead. Combined with the addition of new lasering equipment, this will be an advantage for our customers".

Already at Laurens is a manufacturing, sales and distribution facility for structural and textile ceramics, automotive ceramics and electrical application ceramics.

It also manufactures and distributes in Lebanon, NY - including piezoceramics, tap control discs, pump parts, cutting tools etc. Employment in North America will be around 250 people, while around the world CeramTec employs a total of nearly 3,000 people.
