Wienerberger Acquires Salzburger Ziegelwerk

Wienerberger Ziegelindustrie GmbH, the Austrian operating subsidiary of Wienerberger AG (Vienna, Austria), the world's largest producer of bricks and the number two in clay roof tiles in Europe, will acquire Salzburger Ziegelwerk GmbH & Co (SZW) as of 1 December 2007.

This company operates a hollow brick plant in Oberndorf, roughly 15km north of Salzburg, with an annual production capacity of 60 million NF (= standard format for bricks). During the 2006/2007 financial year, Salzburger Ziegelwerk GmbH & Co generated revenues of approx. €4.7 million with 22 employees. The parties have agreed not to reveal any information on the price of this transaction.

"The acquisition of Salzburger Ziegelwerk GmbH & Co will allow us to strengthen our market position in the western region of Austria and improve the earning power of our subsidiary. This takeover illustrates our strategy for the pursuit of profitable growth projects and represents part of our bolt-on program, which is expected to total at least €260 million in 2007,” explained Johann Windisch, member of the Managing Board of Wienerberger AG and responsible for the Central-East Europe segment.
