Success for Slip Seminars

At a recent event in Stoke-on-Trent, a technical seminar on slip resistance was held at CERAM, where The Tile Association was pleased to welcome over 50 delegates from all over the UK: delegates came in from Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man and from around the country.

The seminar, aimed at offering practical and useful guidelines on slip resistance of all forms of hard floor coverings, was based on a technical paper published by The Tile Association in cooperation with the Stone Federation of Great Britain, the National Federation of Terrazzo Marble & Mosaic Specialists, CERAM and Radlett Associates.

The day started with the Health & Safety aspects, including legislation and litigation. This was followed by the physics of slip, an explanation and evaluation of the various tests methods available and practical demonstrations of the tortus, pendulum and ramp. The seminar ended with a summary and suggestions on the way forward.

The paper is now available from The Tile Association. It is called 'Slip Resistance of Hard Flooring' and it covers environment and location; the physics of slip; test methods; interpretation of results; recommended values; design considerations; health & safety issues; and cleaning and maintenance procedures. It is available at £25 for a hard copy and at £50 as a PDF for multiple use.
