World's Largest SAG-Mill Heads for Chile


Metso Minerals is to supply grinding equipment for two major expansion projects, one in Chile and the other in PR China. The deliveries will take place in the second half of 2003 and the contract for Chile will include the world's largest semi-autogenous (SAG) and ball mills.

The SAG mill will have a diameter of 12 metres and 21 megawatt installed power. The ball mill will be 7.5 metres in diameter with 15.5 megawatts of installed power. These will be used at the Collahuasi mine for regrinding copper concentrate and for lime slaking in the Ujina-Rosario Transition Project.

Metso Minerals will also supply Anhui TongDu Copper Stock Co Ltd in PR China with a grinding mill for the Dongguashan copper project located in central Anhui Province. The mill will be the first high aspect SAG mill in operation in that country.

The combined value of these orders - announced on 4 December 2002 - is 25 million euro.
