NVQ in Tile Sales

The Tile Association (TTA) and the Association for Ceramic Training & Development (ACTD) have announced a training scheme for showroom based personnel in the tile industry. The TTA approved NVQ/SVQ based scheme will be launched at the Expotile exhibition on 19 January 2004 on stand E41 at the UK's National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, England.

The TTA approved NVQ is a nationally recognised qualification that proves that showroom personnel can 'do the job' rather than simply understand the theory or sit exams. The NVQ is given by an Awarding Body, for example the City & Guilds. It covers good retailing practice from customer service to health and safety.

The NVQ is supported by a comprehensive training manual on CD. This is based on three common scenarios: tiling a kitchen, a bathroom and a floor. The product knowledge section includes information on all products related to a projection: surface preparation, fixing and maintenance. All is this combined with sessions on making a sale and the features and benefits of tiles, grouts and associated products.

The NVQ support training package is CD based and will be updated regularly to ensure that it is kept abreast of new developments. The CD is restricted technically to one user.

It is expected that an experienced showroom staff member should be able to achieve the NVQ in up to six months and that a person new to the industry would take about two years. The cost of the full programme is €150 per person plus VAT for TTA members and €250 for non-members. This includes registration, assessments, workbooks, the training manual on CD and the TTA approved NVQ certificate.

At Expotile, there will be an introductory offer to TTA members of €120 + VAT per person and any supplier joining the TTA at Expotile will get one CD free.
