US Navy Awards Contract for Ceramic Engine

Reg Technologies Inc (Richmond, British Columbia, Canada) and its USA subsidiary REGI US Inc have just announced that a US Navy contract has been awarded to Advanced Ceramics Research (prime contractor) and REGI US to build and test a naval 0.5 horsepower ceramic engine.

The proposed engine is a 4-stroke Rand CamTM engine which utilises continuous injection and combustion in a single combustion chamber. The engine will be of all-ceramic construction to permit high temperature operation, without cooling, to effectively burn heavy oil. This new motor will be developed for powering the US Navy's new Smart War-fighter Array of Re-configurable Modules (SWARM) low cost unmanned aerial vehicle.

REGI US Inc is currently in negotiations with Advanced Ceramics Research ACR) to license the Ceramic Rand CamTM Engine for commercial and US Navy applications for this type of engine. REGI US Inc will receive 30% of the Phase I budget and 50% of the Phase II budget when awarded. The contract should start before the end of this calendar year. The total of Phase I and Phase II budgets is expected to be $850,000.

ACR has already made a $3 million investment for a new state-of-the-art production facility for producing composite products. In addition, ACR is fully staffed with engineering and production personnel as it already has profitable ongoing commercial production. In addition, ACR has about 5,000 square feet of open space which will be available for production of the first several hundred Rand CamTM engines in Phase III, while new production facilities are being set up on a Native American reservation.
