LTD Ceramics and MES Announce International Partnership
MES - Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (Tokyo, Japan) and LTD Ceramics Inc (Newark, CA, USA) announced on 4 December 2003 the signing of a Technology Transfer Agreement under which LTD Ceramics will license its ceramic manufacturing technology to MES. This alliance, say the partners, will enable the manufacture of 'best cost' ceramic products in China while maintaining copy-exact standards.
Sales and marketing activities will be jointly managed by the two companies to maximise the potential for reaching global and regional semiconductor equipment manufacturers.
The partners added that customers using the MES/LTD products would benefit from a broad range of services, including world-wide support, design collaboration and quick-turn prototypes, which would enable a seamless transition to high volume manufacturing.
Engineering and manufacturing development will commence immediately in the USA, Japan and China and sites are being identified in China for 'best cost' manufacturing. The target date for completion of the manufacturing infrastructure is April 2004.
