Lingl Building Wienerberger Plant in Estonia

A new plant for the production of facing bricks and wall bricks is being built in Aseri, Estonia, reports Lingl (Krumbach, Germany) which was successful in getting the contract. Being a new member of the European Union, Estonia offers the required planning guarantee to make such an investment. Furthermore, the geographical position of Aseri makes it an ideal location for selling product to surrounding countries. The Wienerberger Group placed the order for the construction of the complete plant with Lingl Anlagenbau und Verfahrenstechnik GmbH & Co KG.

The decisive factor in choosing Lingl was the convincing design of the plant with the objective to flexibly manufacture facing bricks as well as wall bricks in the future. The most recent generation of the Lingl process control technique will control both the Lingl tunnel kiln and Lingl chamber dryer with its seven double chambers - depending on the requirements of the product in the individual chambers as well as on the kiln heat obtained. Depending on the product, drying times are between 43 and 65 hours.

The 160-metre tunnel kiln has a usable width of 7.2 metres and usable height of 1.31 metres in the firing channel. The cycle times in the gas-fired kiln vary between 33 and 90 hours depending on whether firing facing or wall bricks. The subsequent unloading is effected automatically pack by pack. For the time being, sorting and stacking on transport pallets is carried out manually but the later modification to fully automatic operation has already been planned.

Machinery and production processes are coordinated by the approved Simatic S7 control system programmed by Lingl. Control operation is effected by the intuitive PC surface MBVL newly developed by Lingl.

Lingl reported production in the new plant reaching a capacity of approximately 300 tons per day with a working time of seven days a week with two shifts at seven hours per day.
