Hot Gas Filtration With New Generation of High Temperature Ceramic Filters

The UltraTemp Filtration System from Tri-Mer Corp (Owosso, MI, USA) features a new generation of ceramic filters for hot gas filtration. These feature exceptional performance with dry scrubbing sorbent injection for the removal of acid gases.

Early generations of ceramic filters – in the past sometimes called candle filters – were cast with a high-density granular structure like many common ceramic products.  While efficient at filtration, they were brittle, with low thermal shock resistance, and were prone to cracking and breakage. The older, high-density candle filters earned mixed reviews among users. However, technology has now advanced and the excellent performance of the new low-density ceramic filters make older generalisations and opinions out of date, according to the company.

The new generation of ceramic filters used in the Tri-Mer UltraTemp Filtration system is composed of ductile ceramic fibres that have high thermal shock resistance and the capacity to filter fine particulate to extremely low levels. The filter elements are lightweight with a low resistance to flow, decreasing the number of elements needed in an application.

The UltraTemp Hot Gas Filtration system uses a baghouse configuration with a reverse pulse-jet cleaning action. The filters can be back-flushed with air, inert gas, syngas or other appropriate gases. It has a reliable sealing mechanism that is easy to access.

Filter elements come in various sizes, the largest being 10 feet long and six inches in diameter, plus an integral mounting flange.

The new generation of fibrous ceramic filters provides an efficient, proven alternative for hot gas filtration. With over 200 applications worldwide, it is now available throughout the USA. Tri-Mer Corporation, technology leader in air pollution control, is the exclusive manufacturer of the UltraTemp Filtration system, providing turnkey engineering, manufacturing, installation and service through its Michigan facility.
