Course Will Address Combustion Control and Burner Emissions

Leeds University's School of Process, Environmental and Materials Engineering is to offer another in its series of courses - Combustion Instrumentation, Control and Low NOx Burner Emissions - from 22-26 January 2001. These are in fact five linked one-day courses which focus on the latest developments in instrumentation, control and low NOx emissions burner design with particular reference to energy sector applications.

The five-day course will cover Flow Measurement, Temperature Measurement, Burner Management & Air/Fuel Control, Burner Emissions Measurement & Reduction and Gas Burner Low NOx Reduction. Academic speakers will be joined by numerous industrial speakers from instrumentation and burner control manufacturers. The course is designed to give instrumentation and low emissions burner design training to those involved in combustion engineering measurements, combustion plant instrumentation designers and operators, and staff operating combustion equipment or experimental test rigs.

The School will also run a course on Industrial Air Pollution Monitoring from 26-28 March 2001. The Environmental Protection Act requires thousands of industrial process plants to measure their air pollutant emissions to atmosphere. Some companies undertake their own measurements; others hire contractors. This course will aim to meet the need for these people to be familiar with currently available techniques and management issues. Day One focusses on the more general issues, including legislation, compliance etc. Days Two and Three focus on the measurement and analytical techniques.
