40th Meeting for Clay Minerals Society

The Clay Minerals Society 40th Annual Meeting will be jointly held with the Mineralogical Society of America's Spring Meeting from 7-12 June 2003 in Athens, GA, USA.

Key deadlines to note are as follows:

Abstract Submission: 4 April 2003
Early Registration: 9 May 2003
UGA Housing: 9 May 2003
Hotel Reservations: 16 May 2003

There will be a full programme presented, including conference schedule, symposia and theme sessions, workshop lecture (short course) and field trips.

One of these field trips - taking place over 12-13 June - will be headed up by Sam Pickering and will go to central Georgia to look at the cretaceous/tertiary stratigraphy exposed in the Kaolin District. Theories about the origins of kaolin will be discussed, including new concepts about the role of microbial activity in the genesis of the deposits.

Mineral processing technology will be evaluated, in the context of a changing global kaolin market. The trip departs at 8am on 12 June from the Classic Center.
