CICS Named Assurance Provider in Major Greenhouse Gases Emissions Initiative

Complete Integrated Certification Services Ltd (CICS), a global leader in CO2 verification, has become one of only six companies to be named as an assurance provider for the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 2050 pilot programme. This new goods and services carbon foot printing standard aims to improve and communicate the greenhouse gases (GHG) performance of products and services across their entire lifecycle by providing a method for assessing GHG emissions.

Working with the UK Government to reduce GHG emissions by 80% by 2050, PAS2050 Specification for the assessment of the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of goods and services was published by British Standards in conjunction with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and The Carbon Trust. Covering the initial sourcing of raw materials through manufacture, transport, use and ultimately recycling or waste, this new standard is the first widely-consulted method that specifically addresses the emerging interest of both organisations and consumers in understanding the carbon footprint of goods and services.

Shaun Bainbridge, Sales Director at CICS, comments: “This is an important standard and will play a major role in the Government’s aim to significantly reduce GHG emissions. Consumers and businesses are becoming increasingly conscious of their carbon footprints and are looking to goods and service providers to demonstrate robust and transparent carbon accounting. As a leading independent CO2 verifier, CICS is ideally placed to ensure product GHG emissions are measured accurately so that all stakeholders can be confident that the complete lifecycle of goods and services takes into account their total environmental impact.”

PAS2050 is a publicly-available specification and was developed by a team of international stakeholders from government, academia, world experts and independent consultants. The programme will launch in mid-December and will last for one year.

Headquartered in Stoke-on-Trent (UK) CICS offers independent certification and verification services including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BS OHSAS 18001, Product conformity and CE Marking to the ceramics and related process industries; Greenhouse Gas Emissions Verification under the European Emissions Trading Scheme, UK Climate Change Agreements and voluntary (Carbon foot printing) schemes.  All services are accredited to internationally recognised standards and guidelines and are based upon industry leading experience and knowledge, specialist auditors, service orientation and cost effectiveness.
