Sacmi Meets Indian Ceramists

Sacmi (Imola, BO, Italy) recently participated in a training course/workshop entitled 'The ceramic tile production process: applied technologies and innovative developments' which provided an opportunity to meet Indian ceramists at Rajkot in the state of Gujarat.

During the five-day meeting in late November the Sacmi Group, represented by its Area Sales Manager, presented an overview of Sacmi-made presses. This presentation largely focussed on the high tonnage, wide clearance presses that are ideal for the production of the large granito ceramic tiles that have aroused such interest in the Indian market in recent years.

During the meeting, a course on ceramic tile production technologies was also held by Paolo Zannini from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The aim of this initiative was to raise local businessmen's and companies' awareness of Italian technology and know-how and so enhance penetration of the market by Italian ceramic production machine and accessory manufacturers.

India is now the world's fifth largest ceramic tile producer and, thanks to higher output in Gujarat, output levels are still rising fast. In 2004, total ceramic tile production in India topped 270 million sq.m.
