BATIMAT 2001 Commends Active-Cleaning Tiles from Agrob Buchtal

182 companies registered their new products with organisers of BATIMAT 2001 in the competition for the most innovative product. Deutsche Steinzeug Fliesen GmbH succeeded in impressing the jury in the area of 'Wall, Floors & Decoration' with its Hydrotect-coated Agrob Buchtal ceramics.

With the patented Hydrotect coating, the company won the coveted Innovation Prize. Other prizes went to the two largest glass manufacturers who also offer self-cleaning surfaces on the basis of photocatalysis.

Hydrotect involves the photocatalysis of titanium dioxide which is already being successfully used on facades. Deutsche Steinzeug is now also offering Hydrotect-coated tiles for interior rooms, with active-cleaning, anti-bacterial and odour minimising surface effects. Simply using water, almost all forms of dirt can be removed without problems; thanks to the interplay between oxygen and light, dirt and odour bacteria are actively decomposed. The time required for cleaning and the use of environmentally harmful cleaning agents can be significantly reduced.

In addition to these product characteristics and the multi-functionality of the coating - allowing it to be used on facades as well as on wall and floor tiles - the jury was also impressed by the lifelong guaranteed effectiveness which Deutsche Steinzeug provides for its Hydrotect-coated ceramics. The Hydrotect coating is burnt into the tile surface and cannot therefore wear out.
