Ceramics & Architecture Meeting at European Ceramic Work Centre

Following its announcement of the major project on Ceramics and Architecture (which includes components entitled 'Brick' and 'Combined Residencies'), the European Ceramic Work Centre (.ekwc) in Holland held an information meeting for BNA members, the ceramics industry and other invitees on 25 November 2004.

At the meeting, .ekwc unfolded its plans in the field of architecture. This resulted in an interesting and fruitful evening. Koos de Jong, .ekwc's Managing Director, announced that architecture would dominate the centre's activities in the years to come. Having involved visual artists and designers in the centre's day-to-day activities, it is now the architects' turn to meet the challenge of working with ceramics, he said.

Noor Zwinckels, PR/Communications Manager and Project Leader for the 'Brick' project, explained both the 'Brick' and 'Combined Residencies' projects. The ceramic companies Royal Tichelaar Makkum and Wienerberger Group revealed what opportunities they could provide for cooperation with architects. Both companies were also very positive about .ekwc's plans in the field of architecture.

After the presentations, the guests were given the opportunity to visit the workplace. In the kiln hall, Henk Dirkx (architect) and Sasja Scherjon (designer) presented the results of their combined residency, in which they examined the ceramic applications for a building in Amsterdam.
