Almatis Increases Hydrated Alumina Prices in Asia

Almatis GmbH (Frankfurt, Germany) announced on 29 November 2004 price increases for ground white hydrate, ground Bayer hydrate and Bayer hydrate in the Asia sales region. The price increases will range from 10% to 15% and are effective for all contracts placed after 1 January 2005. The products serve the speciality needs of the cast polymer and flame retardant markets as well as many commodity segments.

The costs of raw materials, energy and freight continue to increase and will only be partially offset with this price adjustment according to the company. "At times of worldwide shortages of alumina we at Almatis remain focused on high quality manufacturing and meeting the demands of our customers," promised Dr Gangolf Kriechbaum, Chief Commercial Officer.

Almatis is a global leader in full-line, high performance speciality alumina products and employs nearly 800 people in nine countries. Formerly known as Alcoa World Chemicals, Almatis was acquired earlier in 2004 by Rhone Capital as a majority shareholder and Teachers' Private Capital.
