European Design Institute at Tecnargilla 2004

Tiles that are transformed into games for children; exterior cladding that changes colour according to temperature; three-dimensional ceramic tiles used as equipped walls for the kitchen and bathroom or as object holders combined with partition elements in the living room - these are just some of the alternative uses of ceramic that will be showcased in the Ceramic Workshop during Tecnargilla 2004 being held in Rimini, Italy from 1-5 October 2004.

These applications have been designed and implemented by students at the European Design Institute in Milan which Tecnargilla had commissioned to design several Ceramic Workshop exhibits last time the exhibition took place in 2002.

The exhibition consists of a wide range of sections, from possible new product types and applications of ceramic in the domestic environment, public buildings and urban design, to future trends in colours and materials, a project that links up conceptually and materially with the content of Kromatech, the focus section of the main exhibition devoted to colour, creativity and aesthetic trends in the ceramic industry.

The objective of Ceramic Workshop is simply to offer ideas and creative stimuli to explore how ceramic may develop in the near future, to spur the creativity of those responsible for designing new products at ceramic companies (or for using them, in the case of architects and designers), devising where possible alternative applications to the conventional floor and wall coverings.
