Sri Lanka Ceramics Symposium

The Sri Lanka Ceramic Symposium 2002 will take place at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo from 17-18 August 2002. There are two key objectives to the symposium: firstly, to focus on key strategic issues in the local and global markets arena in relation to traditional ceramics and to explore avenues for diversification into advanced ceramics; and, secondly, to explore opportunities for technology transfer and encourage scientific research connected with the ceramics industry, starting at the tertiary level.

The organiser says that participants will be exposed to world market trends, opportunities for further market penetration and focus areas that the industry will need to consider. It is hoped that the event will lead to links between the local ceramic industry (including universities and R&D institutes) and foreign suppliers and academic institutes.

Papers to be presented will be in the following areas:

• Global market trends and opportunities in Asia, Europe and North America.
• The need to move into advanced ceramics and possible opportunities.
• Scientific and technical research on various aspects of the ceramic industry.
• Managerial/labour productivity issues.

In addition, manufacturers, suppliers and service providers are scheduled to run mini-stalls to exhibit their products and services. There will be around eight of these at the conference.
