End Product Ceramic Exhibition Set for Shanghai

Ceramics, Marble & Stone China 2003 - which also incorporates the International Building & Construction Trade Fair 2003 - will take place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in PR China from 23-26 May 2003.

This exhibition concentrates mainly on the finished product side of the ceramic business - as opposed to the exhibitions held in Guangzhou and Beijing for the supply side of the industry - and will feature every type of ceramic tile, functional and decorative ceramics for interior and exterior uses, pavers, slabs, bricks, related clay products, earthenware, refractories and houseware products including dinnerware, cookware and crockery.

According to the organiser, China's economy will enter into sustainable high-speed development in this new century and authorised statistics show that GDP was up to more than US$1,000 billion in 2001, an 8% increase over the year 2000. The total building and construction industry is foreseen to grow at a higher rate than this - around 12% annually - in order to meet the increasing demand for residential housing and other buildings in cities and towns.

As an example, the outside decoration of public buildings alone is expected to need decoration materials worth US$49.7 billion per year.

Elsewhere, around 14 million commercial facilities, 200,000 cultural and entertainment facilities and 210,000 hotels and restaurants will need refurbishment or renovation sooner or later.
