Refractory Liner Repair Putty

Aremco Products Inc (Valley Cottage, NY, USA) has introduced Pyro-Putty(tm) 600, described as a single part, alumina-silica filled, waterborne, high temperature paste that can be used to repair defects in refractory brick and other lining materials used in boilers, furnaces, incinerators and stacks at temperatures to 1371C.

The product is reinforced with high strength ceramic fibres to provide increased mechanical strength and resistance to shock and vibration. Applications can be made to repair cross-sections up to 0.5in thick.

Aremco says that Pyro-Putty is an easy to use material that can be applied to horizontal as well as vertical surfaces. It sets rapidly at room temperature and cures fully at 93C in two to three hours. After curing, it is said to provide excellent abrasion and chemical resistance to 1371C.

In addition to the repair of refractory linings, the putty can be used as a dampening cement in motors as well as a thermal transfer compound in refinery vessels. It is available from stock in pint, quart, gallon and five-gallon (all US) containers.
