New Alumina-Silica Putty

Aremco Products Inc (Valley Cottage, NY, USA) has announced Pyro-Putty(tm) 677, an advanced, single part, water dispersed, alumina-silica based thixotropic adhesive and coating system for use in electrical insulation and bonding applications to 1316°C.

Properties include a dielectric strength of 200 volts per mil, volume resistivity of 109 ohm-cm and tensile shear strength of 450psi.

The product is supplied in a paste consistency with a viscosity of 43,000 cps and specific gravity of 2.17g/cc. After application, it dries rapidly at room temperature in 1-4 hours and cures in 2 hours at 93°C.

Aremco added that this material demonstrates low shrinkage and will not outgas under ultra high vacuum conditions. Uncured adhesive can be cleaned up easily with warm water.

For inductive coil applications, Pyro-Putty 677 produces a hard, durable shell that protects induction coils from high temperature oxidation and prevents electrical shorts between the coil and the metals that are being heat-treated. The material is also used to embed resistance-heating elements and to encapsulate small electrical and electronic assemblies.
