Philips Analytical has launched a new generation of sequential X-ray spectrometers

The MagiX and MagiX PRO X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometers are designed to meet growing demands for accuracy, speed, reliability and flexibility in manufacturing, mining, research, geology and environmental technology.

Modular system solutions

The standard MagiX system is a modular solution for high-performance process- and quality control applications. Its more powerful companion, the MagiX PRO, offers even more in terms of speed, flexibility and overall performance. This top-of-the-range model has low detection limits for analyzing different types and shapes of sample, operates under a wider range of ambient conditions and incorporates six interchangeable collimator masks. It has a 4 kW X-ray tube, optimized spectrometer geometry and high-performance channels for selected light element analysis. A high-intensity 'PX9' crystal enhances its heavy element analysis performance.

Both models can analyze solids, liquids, beads, and pressed- or loose powders, and an environmental package is available for handling very small samples and droplets of watery solutions. The high-power super-sharp tubes (a 2.4 kW version in the MagiX) have ultra thin high-transmission end-windows for light element performance. The MagiX solutions supercede the successful Philips PW2404 and PW2400, which are widely acknowledged as industry benchmarks for sequential X-ray spectrometry.

Because MagiX and MagiX PRO are modular solutions, adding hardware or software modules easily extends the functionality. Such flexibility makes it possible to carry out routine analysis and trouble-shooting on the same installation, upgrade capacity according to demand, and comply with future international quality standards and legislation. The systems are built and tested at an IS09001 certified plant in the Netherlands, where advanced X-ray tubes, generators and detectors are also made.
