Advanced Milling System Features On-Line Particle Sizer

Malvern Instruments and Hosokawa Micron have joined forces to develop a highly advanced intelligent milling system. The result of this collaborative development is Intellimill, which integrates the Malvern Insitec on-line particle sizer into a range of process equipment including air classifier mills and air jet mills.

Intellimill incorporates the 'ground-up' hardware design of the Insitec process interface into the mill process lines, with features such as sample ports and flow conditioners added as standard. The Hosokawa powder processing plant will be available with a SCADA user interface based on Malvern Link technology; data archiving using a plant historian; and full integration of the Insitec family of instruments, including measurement automation and real-time digital plant data link.

A multi-input multi-output (MIMO) controller allows automatic control and optimisation of the mill, based on streaming feedback from the Insitec instrumentation. The control system will also allow batch tracking and generation of production records, viewable across a network using 'thin clients'. These records can also be used for ISO 9000:2000 quality standard compliance.
