Libbey in Discussions on Vitrocrisa Deal

Vitro SA and Libbey Inc are pursuing the possible purchase by Libbey of the remaining 51% of the shares in Vitrocrisa, the largest manufacturer of glass tableware in Latin America. Vitrocrisa is currently a joint venture between Libbey and Vitro with Libbey currently owning 49% of the shares. Libbey has also served as the exclusive distributor of Vitrocrisa's products into the USA and Canada since the joint venture's inception in 1997.

As well as glass tableware - with the company also operating plants in the USA, Holland and Portugal - Libbey also owns Syracuse China, a company designing, manufacturing and distributing an extensive line of high quality ceramic dinnerware - principally for foodservice establishments in the USA.

In 2004, Libbey Inc's net sales totalled US$544.8 million.
