Joining (ceramics-glass-metal) 2002

Joining 2002 - the 6th International Conference on Joining Ceramics, Glass and Metal - has been announced for 30 September to 1 October 2002 and will take place in Munich, Germany to coincide with Materials Week and Materialica 2002.

The organisers say that this event, previously held in Baden-Baden, Bad Nauheim, Koenigswinter and Jena, has been recognised as the central meeting event in ceramic-glass-metal joining technology and science and demonstrates the interest in research and development concerning joining processes for dissimilar materials.

The joining of dissimilar materials such as ceramics, glasses and metals has been greatly influenced in the past by the development of engineering and high performance ceramics. Numerous relevant research projects have been carried out. In recent years, the development of novel materials for the future-oriented sectors of energy, transport/traffic, medicine and information technology has been gaining increasing significance.

The new products of today and tomorrow are to be more efficient, long-lived, environment-friendly and less expensive. The key to this seems to be, according to the organisers, the development of new, so-called 'tailor-made' materials. New approaches are emerging in the field of graded, nanocrystalline, intermetallic and fibre-reinforced materials.

Joining 2002 has put out a call for papers and the deadline for abstracts is 1 April 2002. For all further information, e-mail: info@joining2002.org
