Honeywell water filtering system cleans its filter automatically


Honeywell has introduced an automatic self-cleaning water filtering system that ensures a clean water supply to a plant. The complete installation - comprising the Honeywell F 76 S self-cleaning filter, a Z 11 S reverse rinsing actuator and a DDS 76 differential pressure switch - provides completely automatic cleaning, both at predetermined intervals and instantly should the filter start to clog.

Water naturally picks up dirt and rust particles, which cause corrosion and wear in pipes and valves, leading to expensive repairs and plant downtime. In addition, the process in which water is used can be adversely affected by contaminants if these are not removed from the supply.

This problem is well-recognised, so preventative measures are often taken with the installation of strainers and/or filters. However, filtering devices must be cleaned, which requires maintenance time and adds to running costs. Maintenance planners must consider the frequency of cleaning: should it be a scheduled task, or attended to only when the filter is known to be blocked? In addition, a blockage is likely to become evident only when the supply is interrupted, by which time the process will have been disrupted and the damage done.

The solution to these problems is t he Honeywell F 76 S self-cleaning fine filter, which has a unique reverse rinsing mechanism that ensures complete removal of solids form the mesh. In the F 76 S, which is WRc approved, the water supply is maintained during the rinsing process, so maintenance downtime and its associated costs are eliminated. Filter meshes are available in a wide selection of sizes, from 20 to 500 micron. The F 76 S is available in pipe sizes 15 to 100mm.
