Ceramic Companies Lead Way in Emissions Reduction

Member companies of the British Ceramic Confederation (BCC) have made a further significant contribution to the British Government's targets for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The ceramic industry's performance is, adds the BCC, evidence of its members' commitment to help the UK meet its obligations in respect of the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The Government confirmed some days ago that the UK energy intensive industry as a whole beat demanding energy and emission reduction targets in 2004, as agreed in Climate Change Agreements (CCAs). Elliot Morley MP, Minister for Climate Change and Environment, stated that although the contribution from industry to meet CCA targets is considerable, the 2004 reduction was more than double the target set by government.

The ceramic companies' reduction in emissions and energy consumption - set against a background of slightly increased output - shows that energy efficiency measures are helping them meet their challenging targets. This has resulted in all ceramic companies in the scheme having their Climate Change Levy discounts renewed.
