Special Interest Day: Ceramics and Technical Research

On 20 September 2006, the .ekwc (European Ceramic Work Centre, 's-Hertogenbosch, Holland) will be organising a special interest day devoted to technical research in the field of ceramics. A link will be made between the technical research carried out on a daily basis in ceramics workshops for artists and designers and the high-tech research carried out by the international ceramics industry.

Guest lecturer is Carsten Wünsche of Ceramic Technology Berlin, who will discuss the building of an advanced complex testing kiln which enables research into the ceramic processes that take place during firing. It will be an afternoon programme between 13:30h and 18:00h.

The evening programme which follows the above consists of the discussion 'Experiencing Ceramics' ('De Beleving van Keramiek') provided by TU Delft's Material Design. This will discuss ceramics made from natural clay and technical ceramics; materials that have been manipulated to reinforce specific ceramic properties.

Guest lecturer is Sido Sinnema of Corus Research & Development and Technology Ceramics Research Centre. His presentation will deal with the production of, and applications for, technical ceramics. This programme is part of a series of discussions organised by Material Design in collaboration with the trade publication Product. The evening's objective is to forge links between designers and materials specialists.

This meeting will take place at .ekwc and is primarily aimed at ceramics companies, designers and architects. It is an ideal opportunity to become acquainted with the various ceramics companies that operate in the Netherlands and the surrounding countries. What technical options do they provide, are cooperations between these companies possible and what do they have to offer designers, architects and perhaps also artists?
