Clay Roofing Awards

The Clay Roof Tile Council (CRTC) is calling for applicants for the 2006 Clay Roofing Awards, designed to recognise and celebrate the most stunning and visually appealing roofscapes that have been created using genuine clay roof tiles over the last two years.

The awards are split into various categories, both new build and refurbished projects in housing developments, commercial schemes and ecclesiastical projects. In addition to this, there is an award for the best self-build project. Architects, specifiers, developers and self-builders have until October 2005 to submit their entries and the winners will be announced at a presentation ceremony to be held at the prestigious Roof Gardens in central London on 24 May 2006.

Chris Morgan, Chairman of the CRTC, said: "Clay roof tiles are continually growing in popularity as architects and specifiers increasingly focus on creating distinctive buildings that are visually appealing and preserve the character on the built environment.

"The Clay Roofing Awards aim to reward this creativity and provide a fantastic opportunity to highlight the exceptional work that is being done on roofscapes throughout the UK across a wide range of sectors. Since the biennial awards were launched in 2002 they have grown in popularity and the 2006 Awards are set to be the biggest event yet."

Entries are assessed against a wide range of criteria including design features, tile specification, fitting and fixing, aesthetic appeal of the roof, technical challenges that were overcome and sensitivity to the surrounding environment.

Entry forms can be downloaded from the CRTC website.
