Small Gets Even Smaller in Ceramic Components for Telecommunications Field

CTS Corporation (Albuquerque, NM, USA) has just introduced what it says is the world's smallest WCDMA (Wide-Band Code Division Multiple Access) ceramic duplexer currently available. This mini duplexer, the Model KFF6669A, measures just 9.8mm x 5.3mm x 1.85mm and, with optimum filtering performance enables 3G handsets to perform high data rate communications required for multi-media applications.

"Our patented ceramic monoblock technology provides the optimal size, performance and cost solution for WCDMA handset designers," said Jerry Gabbard, Vice President and General Manager of CTS Wireless Components. "Ceramic is the only duplexer technology capable of meeting the strict performance standards of WCDMA RF systems, as well as offer these competitive advantages that have generated the exceptional interest of 3G handset designers."

The company has continued the ultra-small path by subsequently announcing the availability of a miniature 4mm x 4mm x 2mm ceramic filter for Global Positioning System (GSP) applications operating in the 1575MHz frequency range. Gabbard said of this product; "With very low 1.2dB insertion loss and high rejection of PCS and Cellular band signals at 50dB to 60dB, this filter provides improved handset performance and quiet operation to the user. In addition, this new design provides a smaller filter which can translate to smaller handsets. Early customer feedback indicates that Model CER0032A will be broadly accepted by leading-edge handset developers".
