New Projects Launched By Carthago Céramique

Poulina Group Holding has announced the signing by its subsidiary Carthago Céramique (Ben Arous, Tunisia) of partner agreements with Laria of Italy. The agreements will allow Carthago to extend its current wall and floor tile range, to open up new markets and to consolidate its position in the domestic market.

The capital sum involved is split equally between Carthago Céramique and Laria, the third largest European producer in its field.

A new production facility will be created in Dokhane, north of Sfax. This new factory will be the first in Tunisia for the production of extruded clay paving and wall cladding tile. Production from the factory will be bound principally for the export market.

The company is also set to further boost its production with the creation of four new brick plants; two in Tunisia (Bir M’cherga and Gafsa) and two in Libya (Tripoli and one on the Tunisian/Libyan border). The additional production capacity will be of the order of 1.3 million tons of clay brick.

It also reports the setting up of two other units – in Stif, Algeria and Zouara, Libya – and an investment project in China which involves brickmaking equipment.

Carthago Céramique has been manufacturing ceramic products since 1988 and achieved a turnover of 67.297 million dinars in 2007. The figure for this year is expected to reach nearly 83 million dinars, of which some 13.7 million dinars will be accounted for by exports.

The company employs 648 people in total and is ISO 9001 accredited.
