Thermal Imager Spots Potential Breakdowns

The Cyclops PPM+ ER, the latest thermal imager from Land Instruments International (Dronfield, Sheffield, England) is the outcome of continuous product development in a fast moving marketplace. The company says that it is ideal for maintenance engineers on tight budgets who need a full featured, high performance thermal imager to spot potential breakdowns around the plant.

The new 'Extended Range' model provides temperature measurement and thermal imaging within the range of minus 20C to plus 500C.

Additional new and improved features include: an on-board colour digital camera and PDA for simultaneously viewing and capturing combined thermal and visual images; a wider field of view that makes it easier to focus on close objects when space is restricted; and an LCD display that remains clear, even outdoors or in bright ambient light.

The specification also includes a higher quality, focusable lens for a crisp, clear thermal image from edge to edge, plus four zoom options - 2x, 4x, 8x and 16x.

Land Instruments says that the cost of ownership is also low thanks to the use of readily available camcorder batteries for the power source, and standard SD memory cards (now up to 512Mb) for saving thermal and visual images.

Image processing is by means of the company's LIPS PPM-specific software which provides an extensive range of functions, including a report writing facility that makes it easy to compile reports combining images and text to a consistent style and quality.
