British Ceramic Tile Names Tile Design Competition Winner

British Ceramic Tile (Newton Abbot, Devon, England) has announced that Charlotte Pearce from Liverpool John Moores University has won its Tile Design Competition, held and judged for the first time at this year’s Tile & Stone Show (31 June–3 July). The competition is part of British Ceramic Tile’s continued commitment to design innovation, giving the UK’s emerging design talent a showcase for their ideas.

The competition targeted students and colleges across the UK, attracting a large number of entries. British Ceramic Tile shortlisted six designs and from these, three finalists were selected. The finalists’ designs were made into actual tiles which were displayed on the British Ceramic Tile Design Competition stand during the Tile & Stone Show.

The panel of judges for this new and exciting award included: Sheila Elliott, Design Director of British Ceramic Tile; Joe Simpson, Editor of Tile & Stone Journal; Leslie Reid of The Tile Association; and Simmy Moore, Managing Director of Simmy Ceramics.

The judges chose Charlotte’s design after considering several criteria. Their comments about the winner reflected their unanimous decision.

Sheila Elliott of British Ceramic Tile said: “It has been wonderful to see the designs that were entered for the competition. There is so much fresh talent out there and some of the designs we had in were really striking. We are pleased Charlotte’s designs came through to win the competition”.

Charlotte said: “I am thrilled my designs came through to win the competition. I would like to thank my tutors and my friends at university for motivating me through my course. It’s fantastic to receive this sort of recognition from British Ceramic Tile”.
