Art wins innovative research contract

The US Marine Corps has awarded Advanced Refractory Technologies (ART) a Phase II SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) contract for the development and implementation of a lightweight/durable aluminium MMC (metal matrix composite) track system for the AAAV (Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle). This program is worth US$750,000 over an 18-month period. ART will lead a team to continue optimising the Al/SiCw MMC AAAW track, designed in Phase I, to ensure that weight and durability requirements are met. This program follows a similar MMC track development where ART and the team were successful in producing a track for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

ART is a privately held company, established in 1981, with operations in Buffalo, NY, USA and Amesbury, MA, USA, that uses state-of-the-art technologies in the manufacture of electronic packaging, advanced ceramic products, thin-film diamond coatings, MMCs and product R&D. These materials are used by the wireless/telecommunications, microelectronics/semiconductor, transportation/military, biomedical, aerospace, structural and energy industries.
