Adhesives Training Programme

National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is offering free consultancy to participants in the Adhesive Training Programme. The programme will demonstrate areas of good practice in adhesive joint testing, in particular promoting the results of the 'Performance of Adhesive Joints' research programme.

The scheme will be structured as a series of visits to the participating organisations. Firstly, observations will be made of current procedures followed by consultancy and suggestions for improvement. Finally, a follow-up visit will be arranged to address any difficulties that have arisen. Round-robin testing will form part of the scheme, ensuring that organisations achieve reliable and reproducible results.

Participants are invited to take part in a three-stage round-robin exercise to identify key factors that influence data reliability. The results of the work will culminate in a Measurement of Good Practice Guide for 'Adhesive Joint testing'. Selection of materials, surface treatment and joint configuration will be carried out in consultation with the participating organisations. The materials will be supplied by either one of the participant organisations or by NPL. All aspects of the test procedure, specimen preparation, and material storage and handling will be examined.
