Annual Porcelain Tableware Market Show/Kiev, Ukraine

The exhibition known as 'Porcelain. Glass. Kitchen Tableware 2005' was held from 23-25 February 2005 in an exhibition hall of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Kiev, Ukraine. The organisers were the Ukrainian Association of Light Industry Enterprises and the Chamber of Commerce & Industry, with information support being provided by CeraMMix 2000 server.

Major Ukrainian porcelain factories exhibited at the show, amongst them the factories Korosten, Polonnoye, Dovbysh, Baranovka, Gorodnitsa, Ternopol, Kamenny Brod and Kiev itself.

The exhibition was divided into three basic sections:

1 Porcelain/Faience/Ceramics - porcelain tableware, faience, ceramics, decorative and art products.

2 Glass Kitchen/Tableware - tableware from crystal and glass; metal and plastic tablewares; lighting devices.

3 Raw Materials & Industrial Equipment - clays, kaolins, dry mixes, paints & pigments, decals, industrial and technological equipment, packing.

In the course of the event, directors of Ukrainian porcelain enterprises met, the main idea flowing from which was the necessity of consolidation of efforts in price and marketing policies, protection of own interests at a national level, further perfection of manufactured products and modernising of factories by the installation of quality equipment for manufacture of competitive products.

According to official Ukrainian statistics for 2004, the volume of porcelain tableware produced in the country was 101.3 million pieces, representing an increase of 6% over 2003. Alongside this, imports of porcelain tableware in 2004 increased by 76.5% over 2003, accounting for a total of US$2.236 million.

Of the export markets for Ukrainian porcelain tableware, the Czech Republic is the strongest, taking fully 50%. China takes 20%, Russia 10%, Germany 5% and all remaining export markets only account for 5% taken together. Conclusions at the meeting reflected the fact that the porcelain sector of the Ukrainian ceramic producing industry is in a stage of active development. The meeting will be held again next year.
