Triangle Chooses Wadesboro Site for New Brick Plant

Triangle Brick Co (Durham, NC, USA) is to build a new manufacturing plant that will increase its annual production capacity to 500 million standard brick units. The company said that the addition of this new plant would strengthen its position as the largest brick manufacturer based in North Carolina. North Carolina is the USA's number one brick manufacturing state, turning out 1.6 billion bricks a year.

Construction of the new 300,000 sq.ft. plant has begun and is scheduled for completion in late 2004. It is being built in Wadesboro, North Carolina, off the US Highway 52 in Anson County. The new plant will be located adjacent to the existing plant, which opened in 2001.

According to President and CEO Pat Brown, with this US$35 million investment Triangle Brick continues to react to the increasing popularity of brick in the USA, to the anticipated continuation of the building boom (especially in NC) and to the growing demand resulting from the company's marketing efforts.

The new plant, which will employ about 50 people, will have the most technologically advanced production and packaging equipment, including industrial robots. The computer controlled kiln will be one of the largest ever built in the United States.

Its new capacity will be added to that of existing plants - Merry Oak, NC (US Highway 1) with 200 million brick/year; Carpenter, NC (NC Highway 55) with 40 million brick/year; and the existing Wadesboro, NC plant with 110 million brick/year.
