Three-Year High for Yageo

Yageo Corporation (Hsin Tien, Taipei, Taiwan) has announced that its world-wide sales netted NT$1.547 billion in March 2004, the best performance since May 2001. The March sales, which increased 10% from February and 9% from March 2003, were primarily driven by demands from communication, EMS etc. Sales for the first quarter 2004 amounted to NT$4.199 billion which remained at the same level as the previous quarter and showed a year-on-year growth of 5%.

In the past few years, Yageo has pursued various strategies to increase market share, enhance technologies and establish global channels. In 1996 and 1997 both Teapo (Taiwan's largest E-cap manufacturer) and Chilisin (Taiwan's largest inductor manufacturer) became part of Yageo. These additions made Yageo one of only three companies in the world to supply resistors, capacitors and inductors.

In 1994, the company had already acquired ASJ, the Singapore based resistor manufacturer and went on in 1996 to establish a base in the European market by acquiring German resistor manufacturer Vitrohm. In 1999, the company acquired passive component distributor Steller (Seattle, WA, USA).

In 2000, Yageo acquired two passive component departments from Philips Electronics NV, now part of the company under the brand names Phycomp and Ferroxcube.

In chip resistors, Yageo now has the world's largest production capacity at 18 billion units per month, almost one-third of the global market. The corporation also has the world's fourth largest MLCC capacity at 6 billion units per month, on a par with TDK and ranking behind only Murata and AVX/Kyocera. In the ferrites field, annual global production of 17,000 tons puts Yageo in second place, behind TDK.

European headquarters are in Roermond, Holland and US headquarters are in Woodinville, WA. Its Suzhou plant in China has just reached new heights (announced 12 April 2004) with R-chips breaking the 12 billion pieces mark and MLCC achieving the 1 billion pieces target.
