Joint Work For Special Ceramic Setters

ENrG Inc (Buffalo, NY, USA) and Refractory Specialties Inc (Sebring, OH, USA) are working jointly to produce SinterLyte™ ceramic setters for ceramic firing processes. The high purity refractory setters are used to support the firing of ceramic components at temperatures reaching 1500°C.

ENrG’s advanced coating technology combined with RSI’s virtually silica-free, low density alumina fibreboard products bring to market durable structures at cost effective price points. The setters, offered with high purity alumina or zirconia coatings, are lightweight and non-shedding. With low thermal mass, the setters can be used for multiple firings and quicker cycle runs.

SinterLyte™ is currently available in sizes up to 355mm x 355mm and as thin as 6.35mm. To accommodate future scaling of fuel cells, larger sizes and additional coatings will be offered in 2010.

The joint development between ENrG and RSI is funded through the Ohio Department of Development’s ‘Third Frontier Program’, along with ENrG and RSI. The ODOD program supports technology research and advancements of commercially viable products and over the course of the program, the coating technology will be transferred to RSI for production in its Ohio facility.

ENrG Inc is a high technology firm that specialises in the design, development and manufacture of critical ceramic components (ceramic membrane and coating technologies) for clean energy systems such as solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) and gas separation membranes. Other applications for the ceramic components include insulation packages for thermal management in energy systems, ceramic tapes, setters and liners and kiln furniture, fuel cells and oxygen transport membranes.

RSI is a world-wide supplier of high temperature vacuum formed ceramic fibre and mineral wool shapes to contain, maintain and/or direct heat. The company has emerged as a leading materials and engineering firm specialising in new high temperature insulation and refractory materials and products. The breadth of the markets served include automotive, appliance, alternative energy, HVAC, industrial furnaces and kilns, fuel cell, solar energy, metals, petrochemicals and solid-fuel appliances.
