Sacmi Builds Ceramic Future on Innovation & Quality

Sacmi (Imola, BO, Italy) says that the added value of production plants supplied by the group lies in its continuous innovation of production processes and unique, lab-developed decorations applied to top-class ceramic products. Presently in a position of dominance in the world market, Sacmi has decided to meet the challenge of low-cost (and, it maintains, often low quality) Asian products by sharpening the edge it has in terms of quality.

This response features three new technologies, patented and already adopted in production plants, namely, Monolithos, Twinpress and Continua. "Thanks to them," says Claudio Marani, General Manager of the Sacmi Ceramics&Tiles Division, "we aim not just to maintain our leadership position but to reinforce it."

Monolithos forms a porcelain body that is full-body decorated directly on to the press. Twinpress combines wet and dry decoration processes to meet the dual needs of high output and outstanding aesthetics, a goal that would be unattainable with traditional decorating systems. Continua, on the other hand, produces a continuous strip of ceramic that is decorated according to the manufacturer's needs and cut to the required size.

Sacmi said that a good number of plants had already been installed using these technologies: about 20 Monolithos, Twinpress and Continua in all. "Our strong point," underlined Sr Marani, "is know-how: our production and decoration techniques make our product not only exceptional but also virtually inimitable."
