Royal Porcelain Ready to Get Up and Running

Royal Ceramics Lanka Ltd (RCLL) is ready to increase production capacity to meet growing demand with its fully owned subsidiary - Royal Porcelain (Pvt) Ltd - which is situated in Horana at the plant previously known as Interbatch Porcelain.

It is scheduled to get up and running on 24 April 2002. Over the last few months the company, having carefully examined and tested almost all the machinery and equipment, replaced and repaired them where necessary. The technical staff - with the assistance of a few foreign experts - have successfully resurrected the factory.

The new RPL factory is equipped with fully automatic modern machinery and technology for the production of high quality single fired glazed tiles under its standard 'Royal' name. At this first stage of operation the Horana factory - with an investment of SLRs 600 million - is geared to produce one million square metres of tiles per annum. The production output can be doubled with a further investment of SLRs 200 million, when the necessity arises.

Another advantage of the factory is its flexibility to produce high quality porcelain glazed tiles as well, without any considerable additional investment. The machinery and equipment at the new factory was supplied by leading Italian manufacturers such as SACMI, Welko, Tecnoferrari, Cimes, Tecnoitalia and Nuova Fima.

Almost the entire technical staff at Royal Porcelain have come from RCLL's factory at Eheliyagoda and they bring a wide range experience with them.

Renuka Hotels Group is believed to have just upped its stake in RCLL to 15% after purchasing a further five million shares in the company. This would make it the second largest shareholder.
