Alcoa World Alumina to Increase Production at Point Comfort

Alcoa World Alumina (Pittsburgh, PA, USA) has announced that it will adjust
the alumina refining production rate at its Point Comfort, Texas refinery
from 1.8 million metric tons per year (mtpy) to 2.3 million mtpy by the end
of the second quarter 2003. For the calendar year 2003, the plant is
scheduled to produce an additional 300,000 mt above the 1.8 million mtpy
rate, giving a total of 2.1 million mt.

The move is in response to increased demand for alumina. Production levels
at Point Comfort will continue to be evaluated in light of future
marketplace conditions.

Alcoa World Alumina (AWA) is a global alliance between Alcoa Inc and Alumina
Ltd of Australia. It operates alumina refineries and bauxite mines in seven
countries. World-wide, AWA alumina capacity is 13.9 million mtpy.
