Direct On-Roller Roof Tile Extrusion; Innovative Plant Inaugurated
A new plant – described as the only one of its kind in the world – is now up and running at the Caribbean Rooftile Company.
The real innovation of this plant lies in transporting the roof tiles directly on the rollers without the aid of supports, during both drying and firing. The plant – claimed to be revolutionary in terms of process simplicity and economy – recently came online at the Caribbean Rooftile Company based in Trinidad.
Supplied by Sacmi’s Heavy Clay division – the Italian group’s business unit that provides a comprehensive range of machines and services to the brick and tile industry – this new turnkey plant has an output capacity of 35,000 roof tiles per day. The end product is the classic Caribe roof tile, an extruded S-shaped design commonplace throughout the Caribbean and the southern United States.
In addition to the dry grinding and extrusion stages, the installed plant consists of a three-tier roller dryer with a 100-minute cycle. A roller kiln with an 80-minute cycle completes the line. The significant level of process innovation applied by Sacmi Heavy Clay on this Caribbean island follows a plant engineering approach similar to that used on ceramic tile production lines in which the pieces travel directly on rollers all the way from extrusion to firing.
