Hanson's Chief Executive to Retire

The board of Hanson PLC has announced that Andrew Dougal, the Chief Executive, has decided to retire. Alan Murray, President and CEO of Hanson Building Materials America, will succeed him.

Christopher Collins, Chairman, said: "Andrew became chief executive more than five years ago, having been group finance director during the demerger period. He has led the transformation of Hanson into a successful focused building materials company - now the largest producer of aggregates in the world. The board enormously appreciates all that he has done for the company and he will be sadly missed as a colleague.

"The board had no hesitation in appointing Alan Murray as chief executive. Having made a tremendous success of running our American business, he is the ideal person for the job."

Andrew Dougal said: "It is with real regret that I have decided to leave Hanson. However the group is now well established in its industry, in excellent shape and well positioned for future growth. With Alan as my successor it will be in good hands.

"We have worked closely together for many years. After years of intensive effort - before, during and after the demergers - the time has come to rebalance my life. After a break, I fully intend to return to the executive business world. I wish Chris Collins, the board and all Hanson employees, many of whom I know well, all the best for the future."
